In just about every modern industry, a business owner must have a website, a landing
page for prospective clients, investors, or consumers to learn more and cash in. Knowing
the importance of a webpage, you should ask yourself: “Am I proud of my website?”
Sadly, many entrepreneurs have provided the public with websites that are faulty,
unreadable, esthetically displeasing, or incompatible with mobile devices. If you’re
cringing with guilt, you may want to read up on these tips to make a perfect website.
Who knows? A new website design could bring business rolling in:
Rethink your content.
As your reading through your own content, look at it objectively and think, “Is this
interesting? Is this easy to read?” There are plenty of ways to make your content more
readable, interesting, and engaging. For one, your content shouldn’t span on and on for
numerous, daunting paragraphs. Make your language concise and keep it brief. Use eye-
catching headlines that are reflective of the content below. Also avoid using pretentious
language or insider jargon that will provoke resentment among your readers. Of course-
-this should go with out saying–proofread, proofread, and proofread again.
Looks do matter.
We hate to say it, but looks do matter. Try to use a font that stands out on your
background (black font on a white background is crisp, clean, and readable). Avoid
using capitals in the body of a text, which can be overwhelming to a reader. Steer clear
of complex fonts and avoid the oh-so-frequent interrupting advertisements that divide
your content. Both complex fonts and advertisements are distracting.
Make your website accessible.
A beautiful website is completely pointless if your readers can’t access it. More and more
websites are becoming compatible for mobile devices, making it easy for consumers or
followers to view your content from their iPhones or tablets. You can find the World
Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for specifications for mobile devices online or contact a
web developer to make an especially polished mobile-compatible website.
Whether you’re unsatisfied with your content or appearance of your website, you should
take action to solve this problem now. Once you do, you’ll feel better about not only your
website, but your overall brand.

Hi Carolyn and Michele
So on topic for me. I have just revamped my blog and yes it is now easier to navigate, looks great (had some encouraging feedback on that aspect) and overall I am so pleased with the result.
Knew what I wanted but didn’t have all the skills to implement the changes … blogging buddy aka techie to the rescue.
And I rewrote a lot of articles as I had been learning heaps about SEO as I build another site with a different model.
Well worth the effort and I so look forward to what 2012 will bring. Thanks for sharing Carolyn. Appreciated.

Good luck with your changes Patricia. Something tells me this year is going to be a breakthrough year for you.
Your article is right on the money no matter what the available budget is for the site, there are things that don’t cost anything including good grammar and proofreading. Having said that, I have to admit that I have come across a number of sites which gave me an instant headache looking at them yet they were successful because the message was so extraordinary and helpful that they broke through the barriers of poor taste getting in the way of their success!

I do agree on looks does matter. It gives you the first impression. If your first encounter wasn’t good then you’ll leave for good.

Hi Carolyn,
constant improvement is key to perfect site. With adding new genuine content and improve visually you’ll get satisfaction. But, there are always few souls ready to give you more advices because they don’t like some detail which is perfect in your eyes. If you and most of your audience is satisfied, you reached your goals. Interesting post!
I been thinking about it but its so hard for me to start making my own blog it because Im attached with someone that you have been giving me so much trust. Thanks for the ideas on how to make a great website.

Clear and good recommendations that are written in a simple for perception manner. I do appreciate when everything is so simple for understanding and can be really useful in future.
I appreciate the feedback Carolyn. I am not an artistic person and just know what looks good to me. A good presentation in my mind may be irrelevant to my audience. Possibly more so for my visitors, because they have different ideas.
I guess everything is all subjective. That’s why it pays to get advice from others. Of course, I have learned not to ask parents or close friends. They will tell you your design is great no matter what it looks like. You need critics who can be critical, as long as they can do in a supportive way. My two cents anyways.

Great article and tips. For me to make a perfect website is to make ourselves a perfect webmaster or blogger in case of blogs. We should also invite our perfect visitors who will engage with us through quality interactions or comments.

Unfortunately many business people outside Internet Marketing don’t have a clue about how marketing work online and what is good and what is bad. Many pay huge money for some ugly mediocre website at best, only because they don’t have any idea about what is best for them. The information is there though, they just need to get informed.

Great and simple points. I think what most people do is think about the search engines first, providing nothing but junk. If you truly create a nice looking site that has a lot of good looking content that is easy to navigate, most will soon find out that the traffic will follow rather quickly! Like anything in life, hard work can truly pay off.
